Morocco will be without four key players for the 2021 AFCON Group C opener against the Black Stars of Ghana.
Quintet Ayoub El Kaabi, Aymen Barkok, Ryan Mmaee, Youssef En-Nesyri, and Badr Banoun have all tested positive for COVID-19 and have been ruled out of the opening game.
This means head coach Vahid Halilhodzic must fall on his plan B players to face the Black Stars who are hoping to end their AFCON trophy drought.
Ghana is going into the tournament with Arsenal’s Thomas Partey as the poster boy of the team with inspirational captain Andre Ayew and Leicester City’s Daniel Amartey. Though, Ajax Amsterdam has failed to release midfielder Kudus Mohammed for the tournament.
Morocco defeated Ghana 1-0 the last time the two met in June 2021 which was an international encounter.
