Interim Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has handed a call-up to ex-Olympique Lyon midfielder Elisha Owusu for the crucial 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.
The 24-year-old was born in the Paris suburb of Montreuil to Ghanaian parents and was on the books of Lyon from 2016 when he first joined their U19 side, according to Transfermarkt.
Owusu, who currently plays for KRC Genk in the Belgian top-flight, was previously courted by former Ghana coaches James Kwasi Appiah and Charles Akonnor but, in both cases, talks couldn’t yield for him to play for the West African side.
However, the latest reports picked up by Ghana Sports Online can confirm that Genk have been contacted by the Ghana FA to check on the availability of the midfielder for the game.
Atletico de Madrid once considered him as the ideal replacement for Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey.
