Ghanaian attacker Caleb Ekuban could be competing in the Italian second-tier league next season following his club’s relegation from the top-flight competition.

The 28-year-old forced his way out of Trabzonspor who won the Turkish Super Lig this season. Ekuban, who established himself at Albanian club Partizani Tirana, could be reflecting on the decision he made to quit the Turkish club which will now be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Meanwhile, he is not the only Ghanaian going down with I Rossoblù. Kelvin Kwarteng Yeboah – the nephew of legendary Ghanaian striker Anthony Yeboah – also played a part.

Yeboah joined Genoa mid-season from the Austrian side Sturm Graz. The 22-year-old was featured in 16 games by the club.

However, the striker, who was in some blistering shape for Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga, failed to score in any of the matches, unlike Ekuban who scored once in 29 Serie A games.

Elsewhere, the story is no different for German-born Ghanaian duo Jamie Leweling and Gideon Jung who has also been demoted from the German Bundesliga with Greuther Furth. Furth finished at the foot of the table with 18 points from 34 games.

Leweling, 21, scored 5 goals and provided 1 assist in 33 games for Furth in the campaign while Jung – a former Hamburg SV midfielder played just 5 times for the club.

There is a similar story for defenders Leeroy Owusu and Derrick Arthur Kohn who are also relegated with Willem II Tilburg from the Dutch Eredivisie.

The pair was a regular fixture in their season’s campaign. Kohn, 23, is a former Bayern Munich player and played 31 league games for the club – scoring once and assisting once. Owusu, who is a former Ajax Amsterdam player, played 31 times for the club.

In France, there is a piece of unwelcoming news for Black Stars defender Gideon Mensah whose Bordeaux club could be relegated from the Ligue 1.

Both Mensah and Enock Kwateng will be in the squad for their final matchday at Brest next weekend where anything apart from a win would mean relegation to the Ligue 2.

St. Etienne, who is also in the same pot of soup as Bordeaux, will be away to Nantes who will be playing for just pride.

Former Real Madrid Castilla defender Daniel Opare will be playing in the relegation playoffs with Seraing in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League as they finished 17th at the end of the regular season.
