Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Sulley Muniru has announced his retirement from football at the unexpected age of 29.

Muniru, who is a younger brother of former Inter Milan and AC Milan star Sulley Muntari, announced his retirement via his official Instagram page on Tuesday.

The midfielder, who started his youth career at Liberty Professionals, has revealed that he is quitting the sport due to a medical situation and would venture into football agency.

Below is the statement which was shared on his social media page.

Life is about pursuing your passions and making the necessary choices and tradeoffs to realize your long term vision. It is with great joy and sadness that I announce my retirement and the next chapter of my
journey with football – my greatest passion.

This decision was not made lightly and was prompted in lieu of some medical developments. Moving forward I will focus my efforts off pitch by nurturing the next generation of football talent through my new agency 4fk_agency. I’d like [to take] the opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to all the clubs CFR Cluj, FC Steaua Bucuresti, Tondela, Yeni Malatyaspor, Dinamo Minsk, Tambov, Asante Kotoko, FC Minsk.

To all my coaches, medical staff, teammates and loved ones, fans and supporters, thank you all for being there for me on this incredible journey.

Muniru spent the 2020/21 season playing at Kotoko where he made 5 league appearances for the Ghanaian giants.
