Ghana female internationals honoured in USA

Ghana female internationals Jennifer Cudjoe and Sherifatu Suleman have been honoured for their outstanding performance in the Women’s Professional Soccer League (WPSL) in the USA.

The pair have been scooping awards since they joined California Storm from Hasaacas Ladies and Lepo Ladies respectively.

Black Starlets leaves for Abu Dhabi training camp tomorrow

The team have been camping at the Ghanaman Soccer center of Excellence in Prampram since securing qualification to the FIFA U17 World Cup.

The player is unlikely to play for the Black Stars B in the remaining matches of the competition after undergoing a scan.

Moses Okoro and Moses Peter scored a goal apiece in the final five minutes of the tie to hand Nigeria a 2-0 win over Sierra Leone in a Last 16 match during the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Monday, September 11.

Sierra Leone dominated the opening exchanges and almost took the lead three minutes in when Donald Wellington drove behind the defence, but failed to beat the Nigerian keeper, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, in a one-on-one situation.

A brace from Moussa Kone in the dying stages of the match handed Mali a 3-1 win over Mauritania in a Last 16 match at the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Monday, September 11.

Mali started the better of the two teams and almost took the lead as early as the seventh minute, but Amara Malle saw his stinging volley from the edge of the box brilliantly saved by the Mauritania keeper.

Following his side’s 2-1 win over Burkina Faso in a Last 16 match at the 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations on Sunday, September 10, Niger coach Francois Zhaoui believes they are ready to challenge the powerhouses of WAFU Cup of Nations.

In a surprise result from the second day of the WAFU tournament, Niger controlled the flow of play and downed favourites Burkina Faso thanks to goals in each half from Boubacar Hainikoye Soumana and Idrissa Halidou.

Speaking after the match at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Zhaoui admits it was a tough encounter but now believes his side can beat any of the teams in the competition.

“It was not easy against Burkina Faso, but we worked hard and got the result,” said Zhaoui.

“It is always going to be difficult at this stage of the competition, but now we are through to the group stages of the competition.

“If we play our best and perform we can beat any team. We can sail through any tough group we find ourselves in.

“We looking forward to playing against the big boys in Africa.”

Ghana international Mahamta Otoo made a scoring start to life at Turkish side Balikesirspor as he climbed off the bench to power them to a 2-1 away win over Ankaragücü in the Turkish second-tier league on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was introduced in the 58th minute and he steered his side on level terms in the 71st minute at the Ankara Ondokuz Mayıs Stadyumu.
