Former Ghana International Abukari Damba has urged goalkeeper Joseph Addo to become the first choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars team.
The ex-Black Stars goalie believes the Aduana Stars goalkeeper stands tall ahead of his compatriots hence wants him to occupy the number one spot in the National team.
Former WA All Stars goalkeeper Richard Ofori who is now on the books of South African side Maritzburg United is currently the first choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars.
Addo’s performance at the just ended WAFU Cup of Nations is enough to see him command a first team place at the Black Stars according to Abuakari Damba.
“Personally and in my candid opinion I think Joseph Addo should be the number one goalkeeper for the Black Stars proper,” he told Kasapa FM.
“His performance was incredible and I see him to be the perfect goalkeeper for the Black Stars.
“If you looks at his performance at the WAFU tournament then definitely he should be the number one, his reactions in post and composure is just wonderful.”
Joseph Addo is currently the second choice goalkeeper in the Black Stars team.
He however lost the best goalkeeper award at the WAFU Cup of Nations to Nigerian goalie Ikechuchu Ezenwa.
The former Ghana youth team goalkeeper has been one of the best goalkeepers in the Ghana Premier League this season with six clean sheet so far.
He is also in contention for the goalkeeper of the season in the Ghana Premier League.
Richard Ofori on the other hand is gradually earning himself game time at Maritzburg United having struggled after joining the Club from WA All Stars.
He is currently the Ghana Premier League best goalkeeper having win the award last season after helping WA All Stars to win the League.
Both Ofori and Addo are expected to make Coach Kwesi Appiah’s list for next month’s FIFA World Cup qualifier against Uganda in Kampala.
Richard Ofori stood in between the sticks for the Black Stars in their last World Cup qualifier against Congo where he made some wonderful saves to help Ghana thrash their counterparts 5-1 away from home.
Coach Appiah having also watched Addo at the WAFU Cup of Nations will decide on his first choice goalkeeper.
Ghana is yet to find a perfect replacement for Richard Kingson who is currently the goalkeepers Coach for the Black Stars team.
Kingson ended his goalkeeping career after two FIFA World Cup appearances with the Black Stars and two four Cup of Nations tournaments.
He however goes down as one of the best goalkeepers Ghana have ever produced having enjoyed spells with English Clubs Birmingham, Blackpool and Wigan Athletic.
